Version 0.2.0
How it works
Twenty minutes, somewhere to be. No home screen to get past, no menu to read first.
01 · Hair SOS
Every launch lands on Hair SOS: the title, one button, and the way in right beneath it. People reach for this app mid-problem far more often than they browse it, so it doesn’t make you browse.
02 · What’s your emergency?
Quick Hairstyle when you have somewhere to be. Hair Care when you want to know what your hair is and what it needs. A short list is what makes it triage rather than a menu.
03 · Quick Hairstyle
5–10, 15–20 or 20–45 minutes. The library narrows to what fits the clock, then ranks against your hair. Every style was contributed by someone who wears it, with their own step-by-step method.
04 · Hair Care
A five-question porosity test, your density, coil pattern and texture. Then a care calendar that works out what’s due next, a product shelf filtered to your profile and your water — and when something’s wrong, the Quick Hair Check starts from the symptom.
05 · Hair Growth
Hair grows steadily; the difference is how much survives. Log a length check and see retention against the 0.3″-a-month average measured for afro-textured hair, fitted through every check with trims added back, plus your next milestone from neck to waist — dated from your own trend once it has settled.
06 · My Hair Profile
The quiz asks about what you can see on your own head, not categories you’re meant to know already. The first answer — loose hair or locs — changes half the app.
All written by people
There’s no chatbot and no model behind any screen. Every guide, style and step ships inside the app; it filters and ranks what it already has against the profile you filled in.
A hair app, not a doctor. Hair loss, bald patches, a receding hairline and scalp bumps carry a caution in the Quick Hair Check — most of them instead of a shopping list, because no cosmetic is the answer to those.
The first question
Different journeys, different needs. Choose yours to receive hair-care guidance and recommendations tailored to you.
Personalised care and styling for your natural coils and kinks.
Personalised care and styling for your locs, from starter locs to mature locs.
No loc styles in the library yet — nobody has contributed one, and the app won’t pad the shelf with loose-hair technique to hide the gap. Loc wearers get the care guides written for them. The first loc style could be yours.
Privacy
No account, no sign-in, no server holding your history. Your profile, length checks, calendar, photos and saved styles live in one document on your device. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.
Questions you type into Ask are shared anonymously — just the words and what Ask answered, nothing from your profile and no identifier — so we can write the answers people are missing. They’re kept for up to twelve months, and you can switch sharing off in the app. The app also asks whether a newer version is out; that request carries nothing about you.
When you share a style
You choose to share a style
Its write-up, its photos, the credit name you pick, and your word that the photos are yours to give.
Saved on your phone first
Marked Queued. If the send fails it waits and goes later, so a bad connection never costs you the write-up.
Sent when you tap Share
Nothing else from your profile goes with it — not your name, avatar, length history or calendar.
A person reads it
Nothing is published automatically. Withdraw it any time, and its photos are deleted from your phone too.
Download
Free to download. No ads, no in-app purchases, no account to make.

FAQ
On your phone, in one document, and nowhere else. Your hair profile, length history, calendar, photos and saved styles never leave the device — there’s no account, no sign-in and no server holding any of it. Uninstalling the app deletes it. Two things do leave: the questions you type into Ask, shared anonymously with nothing from your profile (switch it off in the app), and a style you deliberately contribute.
The words aren’t. Every guide, style and step was written by a person and ships inside the app. The style pictures are illustrations generated before release to show each written style front, back and side. There’s no chatbot, no generated advice and no model call behind any screen — which is also why the rescue flow works with the phone in aeroplane mode.
Download it only from this page. Android asks before it installs anything from outside an app store. The app asks for two permissions, each only when you use the feature: the camera or photos when you add a picture, and notifications if you turn on a care reminder.
It tells you, and most updates install in place. When one is pushed, the app says so the next time you open it; tap Update now and it restarts into the new version, with nothing to reinstall. Changes to the app itself come as a new download posted here, which installs over the old one, so your profile and history stay put — your phone still asks you to confirm. Nothing installs without your tap, and the check carries nothing about you. When AfroCoils reaches Google Play, the Play version will need this one uninstalled first, and because everything lives on your phone, uninstalling clears your profile and history.
Because nobody has contributed one yet. Every entry was written up by the person who wore it, and the app won’t fill the gap with loose-hair technique — on locs most of it does damage. Loc wearers do get Locs World and the care guides written separately for them.
No. Everything in it is general guidance about hair; it can’t see your hair and doesn’t know your medical history. Sudden shedding, bald patches, persistent scalp pain or anything getting worse is a question for a dermatologist or a trichologist.
